The beautiful leaves are the Schefflera’s standout feature.

Unique tropical houseplant

They fan out gracefully from the stem like sunbeams, displaying distinctive leaf patterns. The leaves form a full, green crown like an umbrella - and that’s how this plant gets its nickname of Umbrella Tree.

Combined with the braided or straight trunks, this makes the Schefflera a unique tropical houseplant. Its sunny character is reflected in its rapid growth, especially in rooms with lots of indirect sunlight. It doesn't need much water, but it will certainly appreciate a weekly session with the plant spray to stay healthy and radiant.

The sunny character of the Schefflera shines through in its fast growth, especially in spaces with plenty of indirect sunlight.

Schefflera care

Watering

The Schefflera likes a regular but moderate watering routine. Too much water can cause root rot, while too little may lead to leaf drop.

Water the plant when the top layer of soil feels dry, and use lukewarm water to avoid shocking the roots.

During winter, reduce watering, as the plant grows more slowly. Noticing drooping or yellow leaves? Check the soil – is it too wet or too dry? Adjust your watering accordingly.

Light

The Schefflera needs plenty of light to stay compact and healthy. Place it in a spot with lots of indirect light or some gentle morning sun.

Avoid placing it in a spot that is too dark, as this can cause the stems to become long and weak. Harsh midday sun should also be avoided, as it may scorch the leaves.

Is your Schefflera growing unevenly? Simply rotate the pot now and then to encourage balanced growth.

Misting

The Schefflera is an adaptable plant, but higher humidity helps keep it in top condition. Misting the leaves occasionally removes dust and helps prevent pests.

In winter, extra misting is especially helpful to combat dryness caused by indoor heating.

Noticing brown leaf tips? The air might be too dry – misting a bit more often can make all the difference.

Pruning

The Schefflera is a fast grower and can become quite large. Want to keep it compact and in shape? Pruning is the way to go. Trim back long or weak stems to maintain a full and bushy plant. You can also remove yellowing or dead leaves so the plant can focus its energy on fresh new growth.

The best time to prune is in spring or summer, when the plant is actively growing. Looking for a well-branched, fuller Schefflera? Pinch off the tips of the stems now and then to encourage new side shoots.
