The lucky green one

A braided trunk, symbolises happiness and prosperity and is particularly easy to live with: the Pachira Aquatica has it all. No wonder it is called the Money Tree, or lucky plant, in Asia. Who wouldn’t want that? We almost forgot to mention its lush leaves as well.

Pachira's roots lie in the swamps of Southeast Asia, but it also feels completely at home at your place. A generous splash of water every three weeks and a light location will make the Pachira a happy housemate.

Truly easy to care for

Watering

The Pachira Aquatica may have its roots in swampy regions, but that doesn’t mean it likes constantly wet feet. Give it a generous splash of water once every three weeks – its thick trunk stores moisture for later.

Just make sure any excess water can drain away easily to prevent root rot. During winter, reduce watering, as the plant enters its resting phase.

Light

The Pachira thrives in a bright spot with indirect sunlight, but it can also manage well in partial shade. A north-facing window or a place with filtered light is ideal. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves.

The more light the plant gets, the faster it will grow and the fuller its leafy crown will become. If the light is too low, the stems may grow longer and the leaves may become smaller and sparser.

Misting

The Pachira is a tropical plant that enjoys slightly higher humidity, but it is not overly demanding.

Misting the leaves now and then helps remove dust and keeps them fresh and healthy. During the dry winter months, extra misting is a good idea to prevent the plant from drying out due to indoor heating. Try not to place the Pachira in a draught or directly next to a heater, as this can lead to leaf loss.

Pruning

Want to keep your Pachira Aquatica compact and full? Pruning is the way to go. Trimming back long branches helps the plant stay bushy and well-shaped. You can also remove yellowing or dead leaves so the plant can focus its energy on fresh new growth.

The best time to prune is in spring, giving the plant a strong start to its growing season. Did you know that pruning encourages the leaves to grow closer together, making your Pachira look even fuller and more vibrant?
