Radermachera Bonsai

A special plant with a special name. Named after Dutch botanist Jaco Radermacher, this unique plant features mangrove-like roots and a thick stem – often hidden beneath a lush crown of glossy green leaves.

Artful, mangrove-like roots

The Radermachera Bonsai is a true favourite, thanks to its full crown of glossy green leaves. Compact in size, it fits perfectly on windowsills or desks – beautifully complemented by its matching ceramic pot.

With its sturdy trunk and clever water storage, this green eye-catcher keeps shining with minimal care. A small but mighty addition to any interior.

Watering

The Radermachera – also known as the China Doll plant – prefers slightly moist soil, but be careful: too much water can cause root rot.
Water the plant as soon as the top layer of soil feels dry. Use lukewarm water if possible, and avoid giving cold water straight from the tap.

During winter, the plant grows more slowly, so it needs less water than in the warmer months.

Misting

The Radermachera is sensitive to dry air and thrives in higher humidity levels. Lightly misting the leaves now and then helps keep them fresh and healthy.

In winter, extra misting is especially beneficial to prevent drying out from indoor heating. A simple tip to increase humidity naturally: place a small bowl of water next to the plant.

Light

This plant is a true sun lover and needs plenty of light to stay compact and healthy. Place it in a spot with lots of bright, indirect sunlight – near an east- or west-facing window is ideal.

Avoid harsh direct sun on the leaves, as this can cause leaf burn. If the plant doesn’t get enough light, the stems may become long and leggy, and leaf drop can occur.

Pruning

The Radermachera is a fast grower and responds well to pruning to maintain a full, compact shape. Trim back long branches to keep the plant balanced and bushy. You can also remove yellowing or dead leaves to help the plant focus its energy on new growth.

Pruning works best in spring and summer, when the plant is actively growing. Want a fuller plant? Regularly pinch off the tips of the stems to encourage new side shoots.
